LunaBloom

About Us

We are a female-owned and family run small business based in Cape Town, South Africa. Our inspiration comes from nature, the night sky and the fantasy worlds we love.

Origin Story

Ever since I was a child, nature has beguiled and enchanted me. I would spend hours playing outside, studying the plants and creatures in my parent’s garden and I’ve always noticed and appreciated the beauty of the natural world. I think that is also where my passion for magical things arose as it is so easy to imagine that fairies and other mystical beings could exist in such a splendid place as planet Earth. Fairy tales and fantasy stories never seemed like far-reaching impossibilities to me but rather quite plausible, in this already magical world of ours! LunaBloom is my attempt at sharing some of those sentiments in physical form by creating items that invoke a sense of wonder or appreciation for the natural world or by conjuring up the joy one gets from fantasy worlds!

Who We Are

My mom (Theresa) and I (Kay) run LunaBloom together. My mother is the person who inspired my love of reading and the natural world. My mother started reading to me at a very young age and made sure I always had something to read throughout my childhood. She also made sure that I spent enough time outdoors - sometimes possibly to just have a break! - but a lot of the time she would be outside with me because she loves nature and is a keen gardener. I have learnt so much about plants and gardening from her! My mother has been an artist for most of her life, mainly working with acrylic paints and is very excited to be working with me on LunaBloom projects.

Good to Know

HOW TO CARE FOR RESIN ITEMS: Keep your resin products out of direct long exposure to sunlight. Even though the resin is UV stable and resistant it's not proof, yellowing and colour change can still occur if left in the sun for long periods of time. To clean it, simply wash with mild dish soap and pat dry. Never use abrasive washing products or harsh chemicals. Do not put it in the dishwasher or oven. Do not submerge in water. RESIN AND FLAME: Epoxy resin is not flammable when it has been fully cured. In fact, it is to some extent fire-resistant at this point. However, as with nearly everything, if you make it hot enough, then you can get it to burn (epoxy resin has an ignition point of around 530 degrees Celsius or higher). RESIN CANDLE HOLDER SAFETY: An ideal resin candle holder will involve minimal to no contact between the source of heat, the flame, and the resin component - therefore please ensure that any candles you put in resin candle holders are taller than the holder itself. You do not want the resin candle holder to encase the candle in any way. CAN IT MELT? Epoxy resin melts at 65-315 degrees Celsius, depending on the resin used. If you find the resin has softened due to heat, place in a cool spot and it will harden again. If you have any queries about the product you have purchased please contact lunabloomsa@gmail.com.
